This was oh so close a match and ultimately, the curse of the Mulligans 8
ball scratch came back to haunt Lori again. Hats off to Lori though for
making a real fight of it by clinching rack two after the unfortunate
events in rack one. It went to hill-hill and we all thought the momentum
may have shifted permanently to our girl but her opponent managed to
suppress her very obvious nerves to run out a clear winner in rack 3.

Quite honestly one of the most one sided losses you will ever see. Lori was
clearly the better player in every rack but two 8 scratches cost us what
looked like a sure thing.

The more I think about it, the more I struggle to see how Lori lost. Having
won the opening rack with a memorable three ball clearance Lori then played
an excellent long final solid to leave what appeared a 'banker' 8 ball for
a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately the bridge proved to be an obstacle too far and
the rack went the other way. Lori, not to give up, then sealed the third
rack with an amazing bank on her final stripe having called it on a timeout
to leave herself another easy 8 ball for her second lead of the night. In
the hill / hill rack though, the luck ran entirely against our fighter and
her opponent was able to post his match clinching rack to the board.
Shot Of The Night:Lori's amazing bank on her final stripe in rack 3 to leave herself an easy 8 ball - having called it on a timeout.

Another great match. After storming into a 2-0 lead by playing solid pool
and capitalizing on any mistakes, Lori suddenly found herself on the
receiving end of a very different opponent. The match came back to 2-2 and
set up another of the night's astonishing shots with Lori making a
fantastic long bank of the 8 ball to seal the game. An absolutely vital
victory!
Shot Of The Night:For her length of table bank on the final 8 ball.

From the second rack on I don't think I've ever seen Lori so focused and
she was very unlucky not to win the match. In the end, a very fortunate
leave with the black over the pocket and a very tough, length of table, off
the cushion 5 ball as the only option proved a bridge too far for Lori.
Shot of the night candidate has to be the 3 ball bank in the side pocket.
This wasn't actually the shot that Lori went for and it's not the reason it
gets shot of the night. The real shot was hitting the 3 ball with enough
angle to pot her opponents ball in the jaws of the bottom corner pocket and
bring the white ball out into a snooker on her opponents last stripe. The
fact that the 3 ball went in was a bonus!

A bandit SL3 to be fair. Lori made a good start in rack 1 and looked on
course to continue her early season form until her opponent ran the table!
From that moment on he never seemed to miss and although Lori had a chance
on the 8 ball in rack 2 it was always going to be a tough call given the SL
ratings.

Lori (SL4)

We won the toss and The Rascals put up Lynette (3). Lori has a fantastic record against Lynette so I couldn't resist putting Lori in to try and get the first point. Lori played a good match and despite a couple of nervy misses on the black in the first two racks brought home a 3-0 win with a classy final black the length of the table. One of the shots of the night was the length of the table double in rack one for a good leave on the black. Did I mention Lori had a couple of nervy shots on the black though in the first two racks? Didn't matter though as Lori had a bit too much in the end for a former league MVP.

A war of attrition where experience definitely told in the end. The whole
match was very even but worth mentioning the shot of night in rack 5 when
with the 8 ball frozen against her opponents ball, Lori managed to sink her
last solid and free the 8 ball... ...in the process moving it close to
the pocket. Although the resulting leave on the 8 ball was missed, Lori did
close out the match.

With the amount of SL2s on the team, there was always the possibility of
one or two of us slipping up against under ranked players and unfortunately
in this match the dubious honor fell on Lori's shoulders. Still, some very
strong long potting showed that Lori was in good nick and more than able to
make a fight of it. Either of the two racks lost could just have easily
gone the other way. When it gets to the play-off's however, we may look
back at this as one of the key results.... ......if the SL3 rating comes
along :-)

Strange one this. The early visits suggested that Lori's opponent was
going to be a challenge, but two 8 scratches later Lori had a 2-0 win
in the bag without taking a shot at a black! Now that's the way to win a
match.

Lori's opponent looked like he might be able to cause some problems. He played
a few decent shots early on but Lori stuck to her task superbly playing one of
the most assured matches I've seen her play. There was a really nice pace to
Lori's play but she didn't miss out on the opportunity for the spectacular with
a superb combo shot up all the way up the side rail. Quality.

A very good 2 but who can remember that shot. The previous green was
awesome and with the match seemingly won the realization that the bar
didn't have a bridge hit us hard. Next time I'm in the city I'm going
to buy bridge attachments!
Shot Of The Night:Have to say, Lori's green solid in the final rack as the last ball on the table except the black has to be the shot of the night.

A close match with very little between the two, it was always going to come
down to the deciding rack and our opponent was away from the starting
blocks very quickly. Also, I have to remember not to mention Lori's
miscue! On the plus side, this will hopefully keep Lori as a SL3 for a few
more weeks at least ;-). Full respect to Lori's opponent who made an
excellent league debut but my money's on our girl to take her out next
time!

The void in class was immense. Lori told me before the match that whoever
played their two handicap would win and I have to say I absolutely believe
her. Lori remained patient and never missed a black when given the opportunity.

In truth, the outcome was never in doubt. A great cut on the black in the
top left pocket saw Lori deservedly win the first rack and one of the shots
of the night with a seven ball / two ball combo in the second. Incredibly,
Sam got out of jail in that second rack but Lori had already won the
psychological battle and Sam didn't get near her in rack 3. Bandit!
Shot Of The Night:Lori's fantastically executed thin seven ball / two ball combo in rack 2.
