Sparky kept his recent awesome run of form going against a player that this
session finished third in the MVP list. After winning the first rack Sparky
gave his opponent a mountain to climb by needing the last three. He clawed
one back but the result was never in doubt. The match was memorable for me
as it showed Sparky's obvious new found confidence. With his final stripe
left on the table, a timeout was called. Sparky had two suggestions, the
first was to roll the stripe slowly into the centre pocket and the second
to 'punch' it long to counter the terrible rolls of the table. Each would
have left a tricky 8 ball. I showed Sparky a different option, to play it
firmly into the middle and bring the white off the top cushion for perfect
position on the 8 ball. Sparky understood and executed in some style...
...punching the air as the stripe sank and the white left an unmissable 8
ball!

In a repeat of last week, Sparky came from 0-2 behind to clinch a 2-2 win
against a 5. This match was equally as huge as last week and Sparky again
illustrated great composure and an ability to never give up. Rack three was
the turning point, with seven balls on the table and his opponents final
stripe literally hanging over the pocket Sparky made the first three and
then left a very fortuitous snooker. Ball in hand and Sparky potted his
next two but left a difficult cut into the centre on his penultimate solid.
A timeout was called, the ball was made but he left an equally tough shot
on the final solid. Another timeout and another fantastic shot played with
risky but agreed positional play left a much more makeable 8 ball and gave
him the rack. The next rack in fairness was hardly in doubt with his
opponent visibly rattled. In the end it came to ball in hand on the 8 ball
for a mammoth win. Sparky's long final stripe with perfect position on the
black in rack three was without doubt a contender for shot of the night....
...although this time I'm gonna give it to someone else - read on :-)

Needing to win the last match to get us into the play-off's, Sparky truly
came of age to put in what can only be considered a stunning performance
against a really good SL5. At 2-0 behind we looked down and out but Sparky
knew he was playing well and that he'd had chances in the first two racks so
kept plugging away. Sure enough a nice run of the ball in rack three left
his opponent snookered on the 8 ball and ultimately ended with him potting
Sparky's final stripe giving him ball in hand on the black. Rack 4 was
never in question with Sparky playing some fantastic shots to book the team
a place in the play-off's. We saw some great shots from Sparky throughout
this match but the shot of the night has to be the final 8 ball. Not
particularly difficult but with that amount of pressure he made it look
easy. Get in there!
Shot Of The Night:The final 8 ball from Sparky to seal our play-off spot.

After winning the first rack reasonably comfortably we then watched as two
or three reasonable chances on the 8 ball went begging in rack 2. The worst
being a sitter of an 8 ball in the middle pocket which may win the worst
shot of the night award!. Not to be downhearted, Sparky showed a great deal
of bottle to get to the 8 ball very quickly in rack 3 and although he again
needed a few chances he closed out the match for a comfortable victory.
Point to note... ....some excellent escapes from snookers throughout the
match.

A comfortable first rack but wow, what a run in the second. With the 8 ball
literally hanging over the pocket Sparky was faced with two very tough long
pots with the white right on the cushion. He made them both to leave the
easy 8 ball and clinch the match - great run!
Shot Of The Night:Given the nature of the match, the shot of the night has to be Sparky's long 7 ball with the white on the cushion and the 8 ball hanging. If he missed it was over.

Sparky had to dig deep to win what was a very close match. After winning
the first a 'becoming regular' 8 scratch in the second got his opponent
back into the match before some clever defensive play clinched the last two
racks. Tip to remember - you don't always have to try and make a ball,
defensive play is your friend.

After dropping the first rack with an 8 scratch that was 'obvious to
everyone except.....', a motivated and focused Sparky continued his recent
run of form by clinching the next three and the match. Shot of the night
candidates have to include the length of table 8 ball bank in rack 3 for a
2-1 lead. Worst shot of the night candidates have to include the 8 scratch
in rack 1 and in particular the response of 'No' when asked to take a time
out!

One of Mark's better performances without doubt. Against a really good and
experienced SL3 Mark fought gamely to come back from 1-0 down and take the

he looked dead and buried at one stage. I'm sure there was a worst shot of

Fresh from last weeks victory against a SL6, a rejuvenated Sparky made
light work of this match and secured a comfortable victory. I was a little
worried with Sparky's seeming desire to scratch / sink the white in the
first couple of racks but it didn't seem to hold him back. Worst shot of
the night though for managing to find a perfect angle on a ball almost
frozen to the white to hammer the cue ball into the top pocket... ...nice
angle!

Andy Slack put himself up next to try and get his team the lead. I think he was genuinely surprised when we responded with Mark B. Andy has been one of the best players in the league over the last few years and is possibly under ranked as a 6. Andy's game was affected by some miscueing in the first rack.
[br/]
It could have been easy for mark to be overawed at playing a 6.
[br/]
He wasn't. At all. Some good pots gave Mark the first rack and Andy was in all sorts of trouble. Andy responded with some great pool to win rack two. He started out rack three in the same style but didn't get it done and left Mark with a ball in hand with 5 balls and the black left. Mark L and I discussed whether Mark could run the table to win the match and decided that he probably couldn't so deliberately had Mark leave alone a ball that was blocking the black.
[br/]
HOW WRONG WE WERE!!! HOLY COW! This was a stunning runout! Two balls into the center pockets leaving a cut into the top corner on the 9 ball as the third ball. The ball blocking the black was a green stripe with a potential scratch as it was a fairly straight shot the length of the table. Mark played a great shot to sink the ball and bring the white away from the cushion. Mark now has one ball left and the black. I fully expected Mark to go for what looked like a reasonable cut on the final stripe since a miss would cover the black. Apparently not. Mark is apparently bored with Diet Coke because when faced with this particular Red Stripe he downed it with aplomb. A thunderous double up and down the table, perfect position on the black and a 2-1 win over a six. A spectacular result.
Shot Of The Night:Since it was part of a tremendous run out to win the match it really has to go to Mark B for the spectacular double on the red stripe leaving perfect position on the black.

Possibly the best defeat of Mark's season ;-) In truth, Pete made a
fantastic one visit clearance in the first and Sparky never really got back
into the match. What it is does ensure however is that we will have at
least two SL3s going into the play-off's. A special mention though for the
rack two, ball in hand attempt at the purple solid that somehow missed by a
bigger margin then before it was played!. Sorry Sparky but me thinks we

The Sparky that just last week demolished a SL5 wasn't there last night.
That said, his opponent was without doubt a very good SL3, hardly missing a
pot on his way to a comfortable win. One thing that did strike me as being
strange in this match was the fact that the cue ball seemed to be drawn to
the pocket every time Sparky was at the table. Sparky played the right
shots but got very little 'rub of the green'.

Being 3-1 up in the match I thought it would be good experience for young
Sparky to get in with the big boys so threw him in against a SL5. The
result, absolutely amazing. Sparky swept him in little under 15 minutes and
in doing so put himself in contention for 1st, 2nd and probably 3rd place
in the shot of the night awards. The top two have to be the defensive
snooker in rack one off the outside edge of the 4 ball to leave his
opponent frozen behind the 2 ball and the outrageous length of the table
kick in rack three that not only hit the 2 ball, but potted it down the
long cushion and finished plum on the 8 ball.

Mark's opponent managed several sequences of some rediculous
flukes to make things interesting. In his best performance of the season Mark
didn't let this drop his own standards and played composed flawless pool to
dominate his opponent. Beautifully played. And who can forget that black?
Shot Of The Night:Mr. Beevers had either a double with a potential double kiss, or a tricky cut into the side pocket, with his oppenents ball looming ready to catch the cue ball into the corner pocket if it wasn't perfectly played. Mark calmly stroked the ball right into the center of the pocket without even coming close to the scratch. Great shot.
